Upcoming Event – The Battle of Byland

These events are not GHAS events, but of probable interest to those locally who have an interest in archaeology.

On the 29th of September at 7.00pm Little Ouseburn Village Hall, the award winning author Harry Pearson will be giving a presentation about the Battle of Old Byland.

This was a significant battle fought in 1322 during the Scottish Wars of Independence, between the forces of King Edward II of England and King Robert I (˜the Bruce’) of Scotland. King Edward had invaded Scotland in August 1322, but had been unable to bring the Scottish king to battle.

It happened on our doorstep at Sutton Bank and Harry Pearson will give a gripping and insightful account of what happened, why and what it meant for both England and Scotland at that time.
Tickets will only be available on Eventbrite.

Your ticket price will include a glass of wine or soft drink and the bar will be open afterwards for a discussion with the author.

And also…please save the date for the evening of 27th of October at Little Ouseburn Village Hall when Martin Carver, Emeritus Professor of Archeology at the University of York will talk about his work on the Sutton Hoo Research Project and more specifically about his latest venture to recreate the Sutton Hoo vessel and to see it rowed up selected rivers including The Ouse. More detail and access to tickets will follow at the end of September.
