Upcoming Event – AGM and Neolithic Vale of York, 26th September

The next Green Hammerton Archaeology Society event is a double header! On Friday 26th September we’ll be hosting our Annual General Meeting followed by a talk by community archaeologist Jon Kenny on the Neolithic Vale of York.

The AGM

All are welcome to come and listen to the Annual General Meeting, ask questions and express interest in getting involved. There will be a short summary of work over the past year and brief reports.

There is no cost to attend this element of the night.

The Talk

Over the last few years we have been investigating the possibility that we have a Neolithic Henge at Kirk Hammerton. But what do we know of the Neolithic in our part of Yorkshire. For many years these pioneers of farming were thought to live on the high ground, the vale being an inhospitable bog only crossed along strips of higher glacial moraine. But we have many wonderful examples of henge monuments and lots more Neolithic flint is being found. Perhaps large parts of the Vale were also inhabited by Neolithic people. This is a review of evidence they have left us.

Cost to attend this element of the evening will be £5 (£3 for under 16s)

These will be held at the Green Hammerton Village Hall (ghrc.co.uk) and tea/coffee and biscuits will be provided.

There will also be a raffle to take part in.

Doors (and set up!) will be from 1845 (please be aware there is an event in the hall before us so do not arrive earlier) with the AGM to start at 1900 and talk to begin at 1930.
